English 7 Intensive
Welcome to English 7 Intensive! This course helps students develop and improve skills such as reading, writing, speaking, and listening, and is based on the common core standards. Students will read and analyze short stories, poems, novels, and plays. Some of the full-length works are The Outsiders, A Long Walk to Water, Joey Pigza Swallowed a Key, and Monsters are Due on Maple Street. Through class discussions, guided reading, personal responses and various modes of writing, students deepen their understanding of literature and strengthen their ability to communicate that understanding through written and spoken word. Class assignments will give the students the opportunity to create essays, poetry, short responses, presentations and creative projects. This course will solidify the foundations of writing by developing sound mechanics, expanding vocabulary and the fluid expression of ideas as well as addressing individual writing and reading goals as specified on students' IEPs. Support services of an ENL teacher and Speech Pathologist are incorporated for a team approach to student success.
