Dear Middle School Families,
I hope this email finds you well and having an enjoyable summer. As we plan for the opening of the school year, I would like to share some important dates and information with you.
Open House Orientation for the incoming 6th and 7th graders will be on Wednesday, August 28th, from 2:00-6:00 pm. This is a great time for the students to be able to walk around with their schedules to see where their classrooms are, access their lockers, have a chance to meet some of their teachers, and ask questions. All student schedules will be available through the student/parent portal on August 28th; transportation information will be available there as well.
The first day of school is Wednesday, September 4th. Breakfast is always available beginning at 7:25; period 1 begins at 7:40. The buses will drop off students in the front of the building. If you are driving your student to school (and/or picking them up after school), please use the west-end entrance (near the tennis courts). If you need to pick-up/ drop-off your student during school hours, please do so at the east-end entrance (near the loading dock).
Modified sports for 7th and 8th graders will begin on Wednesday, September 4th. Registration for Fall 2024-2025 Modified sports is now open on Family ID. Please go to Onteora’s Athletics webpage for instructions. If you would like more information about modified sports, please call the Athletic Office at 657-2373, extension 2101.
Also, please note that the last full day of classes of the middle school will be Friday, June 20th. Monday, June 23rd will be 8th grade only for Checkpoint examinations. All students will have A.M. half days on June 24th and June 25th for final exams in their core classes. More details will follow.
Please note that the middle school will continue to prohibit cell phone use during the school day. If a student needs to get in touch via cell phone with their parents/guardians during the day, they may come to the middle school main office to do so. This practice of eliminating cell phone use has led to a continued focus on academics, and healthy and appropriate ways to socialize with peers and adults within the middle school community.
Enclosed you will find a letter from your student’s grade-level teachers to help you prepare for a successful school year. If you need any assistance with getting these supplies, please just let us know.
Enjoy the rest of your summer! We are looking forward to a great year.
Sincerely,
James DiDonna
