Onteora's Class of 2030 Takes the Next Step Toward High School

Soon-to-be freshmen at Onteora High School were celebrated during the Grade 8 Moving Up Ceremony on June 24, marking an important milestone in their educational journey.

The evening featured a slideshow showcasing the Class of 2030, a spirited performance of the National Anthem by Grade 8 chorus members, remarks from Top 10 student Jacob Lane, a special awards presentation, and words of encouragement from Middle School Principal James DiDonna. Grade 8 student Anthony Denave also delivered a beautiful flute interlude that ushered in the ceremony’s traditional rose presentation.

A highlight of the evening was the recognition of students whose achievements, leadership, citizenship, and academic excellence earned them distinguished awards and scholarships. Congratulations to Elise Yannucci Fitzer, recipient of the New York State Comptroller Achievement Award; Thomas Sharon Jr. and Vera Davis, recipients of the New York State Attorney General’s Triple C Award; and Henrietta Phillips, recipient of the New York State Attorney General’s Civic Ambassador Award. We also celebrate Karmen Camino, Vera Davis, Isabella Jones, Julissa Lemus Carrillo, Ailin Lovera Hernandez, and Miya Pittman, recipients of the President’s Challenge Scholarship from Ulster County Community College. Congratulations as well to William Fox and Isabella Jones, recipients of the Onteora Non-Teacher Employees’ Association Awards.

We are incredibly proud of all our Grade 8 students and look forward to seeing all they accomplish as they begin their high school careers. Congratulations, Class of 2030—we can’t wait to welcome you to Onteora High School!
